Born and raised in the Santa Ynez Valley, 35 miles north of Santa Barbara, California, Quinn Cody spent his early years on his parents 160-acre ranch deep in the San Rafael mountains, surrounded by National Forest. By age 6 he was riding the steep trails around his mountain home. At age 12 he raced his first off-road race at Palmdale, California and continued racing every weekend for the next six years in AMA sanctioned desert and enduro races. He was racing and finishing 50-100+ mile desert races when he was 13, and was the youngest rider to win a novice division trophy in the Best of the West competition (at age 15), for high points in a series of races in Enduro, Hare and Hound and European Scrambles.  At the age of 15 he moved into the AMA expert desert racing class.

A skilled and experienced long-distance off-road racer, Quinn achieved national recognition in the off-road racing world when he captured the Four-stroke National Hare and Hound championship in 2004. Early in 2005 he made a spectacular Baja debut with his very first overall Baja win at the San Felipe 250. Cody then joined the Honda Off-Road Racing “B” Team  and captured a 2nd overall in that year’s Baja 1000.

In 2006 he joined the elite group of Baja 1000 overall winners, riding with Honda’s Off-Road Team racers Steve Hengeveld and Micky Childress to an amazing 18 hour first overall finish in the Ensenada to La Paz Baja 1000. He has raced the ISDE, in Slovakia in 2005, where he won a bronze, and also the Erzberg Rodeo in Austria, in 2008, where he was one of 35 finishers among a field of 1500 entries.

He joined Johnny Campbell Racing’s (JCR) Team of top racers at the team’s inception in 2008, winning 2nd overall in the Baja 1000 in 2008, a first overall in the 2009 Baja 1000 and a first overall in the 2010 Baja 500. Quinn captured his third Baja 1000 win in November 2010, on the longer Ensenada to La Paz route, with Kendall Norman on their two-man team, finishing in 19 hours. The Norman-Cody team was the first two-man team ever to win the Baja 1000 championship.

In 2011 Quinn Cody is in his prime as a long-distance off-road racer, and is fitter, smarter and faster than ever. He showed his mettle in his first ever Dakar Rally in Argentina and Chile in January by finishing the toughest offroad race in the world in 9th place.

The Dakar covered over 5000 miles in 13 stages, from January 1 to 16 with one rest day in between. Though his riding and quick grasp of the complex navigational system brought him recognition among his peers as “rookie of the year” at this year’s Dakar, Quinn said it was the toughest race of his life.

Quinn Cody remains focused on continuing his victories in the Baja for JCR Racing, intent on bringing home another Honda championship with wins in the San Felipe 250, the Baja 500 and the biggest offroad race in North America—the Baja 1000.

But as 2012 opens with another Dakar Rally on January 1 in Argentina, you can bet you’ll find Quinn Cody back again, ready and eager to master his second Dakar.
